Selling the Farm

I could see the world from there
My heart-rest
Warped walls that welcomed me
Paper peeling revealing
Stronger stuff
Horse hair, lath and plastered
With love and anger and hope and despair
That joyous shudder of surrender
When I entered her
Drowned now
By the drone of refrigerators and baseboard heaters
Getting on with it

You should do more of this, Cath… seems you have the gift. Makes me think of the place near Rexton.

Well said Cathy, I really miss the old place. I spent a saturday painting that cow on the barn doors. In a way I guess I’ve created an old place of my own here in Burton. I enter her often :)

So sad it’s gone. Maybe someday someone in the family will bring her back. In the meantime, your place is beautiful :)
